Hi,
on the trunk of OpenWRT, they are resorting the packages and packages which arent maintained are sorted out. Python is unmaintained and is not easily available currently.

long story short: you are using trunk image, which is not supported by PirateBox team.

please use the images, that you can find here piratebox.cc

I'm having the same issue.

when trying the recovery method `op` posted I'm not recieving any responses to pings (arp or ICMP). I'd suggest not using the factory firmware with mtd.

How to uninstall PirateBox? And reset my MR3020

Leave it as new. As recently bought. With the factory settings.

what might work is:

download this image file [q.gs]
unzip it
upload to the device
run
 mtd write -r <filename.bin> firmware

more you can find here [wiki.openwrt.org]?

Thanks, you have a great project. Greetings from Peru.

Which is better-- the MR3020 or the MR3040?

I'm going to make an OpenWrt PirateBox, and I'm wondering if the MR3020 or the MR3040 is better. The MR3040 is a few dollars cheaper on Amazon, so I'm wondering if there's any reason to spend a few dollars more to get the MR3020, or vice versa. Thanks!

that's wierd, i keep seeing the 3040 way more expensive over here in the UK. i got the 3040 just because it's rechargeable, and with a nice low profile USB, takes up way less space. better for covert action!

Matthias:

I really hate to be wasting your time with this but hope it proves to be a value exercise.

I watched your youtube video of the start up process and mine does the same except.....

the USB flashes for about 3 seconds
the WPS never comes back on. (your video shows a delay of a few seconds but even after minutes there is nothing)

I am beginning to think there is a hardware failure?

Same here...

I understand the 3040 is just a 3020 with a battery and in different form factor.

My first 3020 became a bit unwieldy with the big USB, cable and external battery, I have ordered the 3040 with the mini USB to get a sleek package. I believe I can still add my external battery if I want more than a couple of hours of use.

I think I might've bricked it, that or my settings are so crazy that nothing wants to go well for me.
1) Running Windows 7 professional
2) My ip when I use ipconfig is said to not be a webpage when I try and put it into putty.
3) mtd isn't a command on my ubuntu i haven't gotten to the step where I need to use it in putty.
4) First day, not so good at this, please be nice

Hi,
mh mh mh.
Do you want to make a short YT video? That may help.. maybe the flashed image on the router was wrong or has a defect.

Cannot install OpenWRT onto MR3010

Hi!
I've tried to update the firmware of my TL-MR3020, but when I upload openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3020-v1-squashfs-factory.bin, I receive this error:

Error code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name.

Here are the steps I took:
- Downloaded "install_piratebox.zip" and "openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3020-v1-squashfs-factory.bin"
- Extracted and transferred the "install" folder directly to a FAT32-formatted USB drive
- Safely removed USB drive and connected to router, then plugged the ethernet cable and usb cord into the computer
- Accessed router's Web GUI, and attempted to upload the squashfs-factory.bin file under Firmware Upgrade
- Received error message

Any ideas? Thanks!

I can't seem to access serial on a bricked mr 3040

i have a pl 2303 usb to serial adpater hooked up to my pc via a vm (my adpater doesn't work under windows 8.1 but fine on windows 7)

the board is plugged in properly to the adapter and nothing shows up in putty. im sure the the adapter works under windows 7, becuase putty throws a fatal error about the adapter when unplugged.

also the board has the power light on and the remaining lights still flashing in 3 second intervals.

any help is apreciated

TL-MR-3020 upgrade (openwrt to piratebox)

0
0
Hardware: TP-Link TL-MR3020 v1
I have a CHAOS CALMER (Bleeding Edge, r42321 LuCI Trunk / (svn-r10521) ) running on TL-MR3020
I read: [piratebox.cc]
my question to step 6:
"6. Connect the router via ethernet cable to your computer and power up the router"
Is it correct then openwrt software is replaced by the one on the stick?

I ask, because the installed openwrt can not mount a formatted FAT32 stick plugged on usb.
cd /mnt/usb is empty
thanks for help!
