No need to double bump, you can edit posts here. ;)
My successful flash was using the .bin Dalton referenced, although now I'm not sure if I could have done it with others because of minor mistakes on my part.
If you can't telnet in, maybe you need to start over with failsafe mode (I know it must be draining you at this point, but go slow.) I was experiencing the same issues as you and following this topic fixed my issues.
Key points I did that I think helped and the steps I took:
- Failsafe mode (sometimes I couldn't telnet in unless I did this step)
- Used SCP in Windows to copy firmware to /tmp/
- used cd /tmp and the mtd -r write openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3040-v2-squashfs-factory.bin firmware commands (putty)
- The device will reboot, but wouldn't flash successfully. Press any key in your Putty terminal after that and the Putty terminal will probably close. Wait a minute, then see if you can telnet back in.
- Edit the vi /etc/config/network file as Evan stated above (doubt this mattered, probably not for installation, but I did it)
- Execute the command in telnet mv /mnt/usb/install/auto_package_done /mnt/usb/install/auto_package on one line. This renames the auto_package_done folder to auto_package, which I think was my problem.
- Execute the command box_installer_start.sh
- Wait. Check your mobile phone's Wi-Fi or another laptop's wireless card to see if the SSID appears. Wait some more and when you think it's safe, open a browser window and hopefully you're in business. Remember, if you don't wait long enough and botch the flash, maybe you could brick or maybe you have to do the entire install over again - I dunno. Just be patient.
I still have issues with SSH in Putty, so I'm downloading VMWare and some flavor of Linux (will still have to manually configure IP settings in Linux the same way you did in Windows) to SSH in and edit/execute the other commands necessary post-installation to set up Kareha and Discussion board, etc.
