ok, then i assume your other MR3020N is somehow new. That is bad... I need to find more info about that somewhere, but google wasn't very helpful.
Now to your older MR3020.
1. After changing the password, do you login to your device using ssh with that command
ssh root@192.168.1.1
If you leave the bolded text out, then the ssh command tries to login with your current user, which is obviously not configured on your box.
Maybe this is the issue.
The issue with the ~ at the beginning of the page, points into the direction of not correctly run installation.
Please try to post the output of these commands, that I can verify my guess and I can hopefully lead you to the solution.
