Only a manual DNS & proxy setup (static IP), I don't know about problems on old PirateBox versions.

Are there any messages on the windows system?

when you open the command box, please enter the following commands, which hopefully helps to narrow the problem down:

ipconfig
ping 192.168.1.1
ping piratebox.lan
nslookup piratebox.lan
