For example, I modified my PB running on a MR3020 so It could function while connected to a LAN.
the LAN connection uses DHCP to obtain an IP, and registers it's hostname with DNS.
the WiFi connection is totally isolated, and provides DHCP for clients, as well as the catch-all DNS so that any site opened dumps you into the local webserver.
