The device only has 4MB flash, so it needs to run from a USB stick (/mnt/usb) to have enough storage space for packages like python and lighttpd. The flash only contains a skeleton system that extroots /mnt/usb upon startup.
I don't believe any of the weird double mounts were generated by me, which is why I asked if the PB install script happens to use /mnt/usb, or whether it grepped this path from somewhere else and started working with it.
I'll wipe the filesystem and start again, and double check that none of the weird configuration exists before the install script. I agree that manual install is probably better for this setup. Can you direct me to where the files are available for download? I do not see them in the github I found
