Possibly Bricked WR703N? :S

Hello,

I was following Dave Darts's tutorial for a Pirate Box, using a WR703N router. I followed his instructions, which led me to this file index, from which I downloaded the proper bin file. I made sure it was the right one, wr703n squashfs-factory.

Upon flashing, my router became completely unresponsive on the ethernet port. No telnet, no ping, no nothing.
Naturally, I searched around and then tried failsafe mode. This is what I did:

[*] Disconnected wifi
[*] Plugged the unpowered 703 in via ethernet
[*] Changed IP to 192.168.1.2
[*] Changed mask to 255.255.255.0
[*] Powered on the 703
[*] Hit the reset button when the LED began blinking (it started blinking rapidly)
[*] Opened cmd and pinged 192.168.1.1

But I got no response. Only "Request timed out" and "Report for 192.168.1.2: Destination host unreachable."

Here is my ipconfig readout:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::bd47:867a:66e7:2fc3%10
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Post #303 on thisOpenWRT forum thread leads me to believe that flashing the 12.06 firmware version, which the tutorial linked to, was what caused the problem. Unfortnately, the only method they've been able to recover their routers with on a brick like this is to solder a serial port to the board, and that's completely out of my area of comfort.

If anyone has some further suggestions, I would love to hear them! Thanks for your work in this community, guys. It helps people like me fix things we mess up. (tu)
