I put my old 80 GB Intel X25 SSD in a USB case, formatted it to fat32 and copied over the files from the USB stick.
And it just worked. Nice. I assume that this will improve performance somewhat, but I haven't performed any benchmarks. Also the SSD might cause some extra power to be used, so the battery may not last as long as usual, but I haven't done any tests. The TL-MR3040 works fine with the SSD on internal power, but it might be best to have external power attached as well.
Using a SSD means that a PB can be assumed to be more reliable over time and run slightly faster.
I also attemted to use the SSD with ext4 filesystem, following the instructions here:
[piratebox.aod-rpg.de]
but I never got it to work. The PB SSID appeared, and I could attempt to connect, but I never got a IP. The filesystem tested as clean and I even clobbered the contents of the SSD with a chmod -R 777 *, but I still couldn't make the ext4 work.
Not very important to me, but it would be nice to get ext4 working on the SSD. Grateful for suggestions.
