Okay, I have made progress. I had to take a break for a few days to clear my mind as this was aggravating me. I was able to follow instructions at [wiki.openwrt.org] and using the following:
Once I got Ubuntu installed, I ran the terminal and attempted "python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000" from the /tmp directory and it said it was running on port 8000 on 0.0.0.0, even though I had configured the network so my ip address was 192.168.1.2. From there, I couldn't tell if anything was working or not because every command I typed into the terminal didn't give me any feedback. The cursor would return to the next line down but otherwise, I had no idea if I was doing anything correctly, just blindly typing the commands found at: [piratebox.aod-rpg.de]
I'm going to continue poking around but I'm learning as I go and any help you can offer will be repaid as good karma!
mtd -r erase rootfs_datawas able to reboot and telnet in WITHOUT failsafe! So, I'm all excited but still lacking everything else. When I try to re-write the /etc/config/network file in vi, I still get the following error message when I try to write the file:
"etc/config/network" No such file or directory
