Winning: I was able to SSH into the mr3020 with WinSCP and load the original OpenWRT image into /tmp and

mtd -r write openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-mr3020-v1-squashfs-factory.bin firmware

got that reflashed and I'm now up and running under normal OpenWRT. I'll re-visit the piratebox when I'm done celebrating. I thought I had a brick.
