Still you are feeding one device with it from two power sources, generally a bad idea. So try either the usb hub or the other solution if the router can't power the drive.

And if you disable the wifi, does it bootloop as well with the 8GB usb stick? Have you tried the 8GB usb before you hooked up the y-cable and ssd disk? And also try with a powered hub.
